Dollar General pilots self-checkout tech in stores to reduce costs

Dollar General has added around 239 new stores during the quarter and is on track to debut 1,110 locations later this year, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Owen revealed. Mostly, the stores will be following the retailer’s 8,500-square-foot format. The discount retail chain is now piloting self-checkout tech to automate its outlets. As the discounter continues to sell affordable products to attract consumers, this move would mitigate obstacles caused by unwavering supply chain issues and rising inflation. Moreover, cashier associates would now assist shoppers with tech payments and take care of other customer handling tasks.
