Local e-commerce platforms Gmarket and Auction conducted a survey to gauge the latest consumer behaviour in Korea. The survey included 5,320 shoppers, and its results revealed that 51% of the respondents said that their spending slightly increased in May after pandemic SOPs were lifted, and 26% of them said that their spending sharply increased. 40% of the respondents said that their online spending increased due to more social events and gift purchases. 20% of them wanted to reward and pamper themselves by buying gifts for successfully overcoming the pandemic woes. 17% said that they don’t have any specific reason to shop and just want to celebrate coming back to ‘normal life’.
