UNFI to upgrade its distribution capabilities with symbotic robots and automation software

United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) plans to install new Symbotic robots and automation software at its 1.15 million-square-foot Centralia, Washington, distribution hub. The end-to-end solution from Symbotic will be utilised in the dry grocery part of the plant to increase operating capabilities and efficiency, improve order accuracy for consumers, and better organise items on pallets to improve the store-level experience. UNFI is also striving to update its distribution capabilities by implementing Systems Application Enterprises’ barcode-scanning technology (SAE). To increase order accuracy and efficiency, UNFI, North America’s biggest publicly listed food distributor, has implemented SAE’s Selector Pro, Loader Pro, and Driver Pro. UNFI is implementing a complex transformation strategy that focuses on services, wholesale, retail, and corporate and business operations.
