Tesco to half food waste by 2025 to meet guidelines shared by the UN

Tesco, one of the biggest retailers in the British economy, has partnered with FareShare and OLIO to reduce food waste by 50% by the year 2025. The retailer is following the guidelines of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The retailer is expanding its current food surplus redistribution programmes to improve access to food. Tesco is also growing its partnerships with suppliers to aid in food waste reduction. It will help suppliers stockpile fruit and vegetables growing in unstable patterns and manage large crops. The food which can’t be consumed by humans will be supplied as animal feed. Ken Murphy, Tesco Group CEO, shared that the retailer will execute multiple strategies to reduce food waste.
