Meta retracts the plan to make AR glasses available to consumers

Meta Platforms Inc. has decided to retract the idea of making its augmented reality glasses available to consumers due to multiple reasons. Initially, the tech firm will disburse the AR glasses to retailers, developers, and early tech adopters. Meta plans to enable software teams to use the glasses, which are named Orion internally, to assemble applications for more advanced AR glasses. The tech firm will then launch them to the public in the future. Meta embraced this decision in the light of multiple reasons. The first reason is the higher cost of building these AR glasses in large quantities for consumers. Secondly, the display brightness and a few other hardware specifications of Orion are not consumer-ready. Meta also plans to add a smartwatch designed to work with its AR glasses. The firm will design a consumer-friendly device with advanced features and adjustable brightness in the future.
