Instacart, in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), Building Bridges Across the River, and Martha’s Table, has initiated a programme in Washington, D.C., aimed at supporting 500 food-insecure families in underserved Wards 7 and 8. This initiative provides a $60 monthly Instacart Health Fresh Funds stipend and free grocery delivery, allowing families to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables via Instacart. With only three full-service grocery stores serving 150,000 residents compared to eight stores serving 84,000 in another ward, this programme addresses the stark food access disparity. As part of PHA’s Good Food at Home programme, Instacart commits to delivering 10 million produce servings to nutrition-insecure families nationwide in the next three years. The successful pilot in Indianapolis demonstrated that the produce credits facilitated healthier eating habits for 78% of participant families. This move aligns with Instacart’s strategy to utilise technology and partnerships, while PHA emphasises the programme’s potential for both short-term relief and long-term healthy habits among families.
