Sobeys plans to launch Scene+, an upgraded loyalty programme

Empire Company Ltd., Sobeys Inc.’s parent firm, has teamed up with Scotiabank and Cineplex to roll out Scene+, a shopper loyalty programme. Sobeys will launch Scene+ soon and plans to make it Canada’s largest customer loyalty programme. Nova Scotia-based Empire revealed that it would begin launching the Scene+ programme in Atlantic Canada in August. The loyalty programme would later be rolled out across the nation. Several grocers, including Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, IGA, FreshCo, Chalo! FreshCo, Voilà by Sobeys/Safeway/IGA, Needs, Thrifty Foods and Les Marchés Tradition would begin using the Scene+. Michael Medline, president and CEO of Empire, said that the loyalty programme would be a game-changer for the grocery industry. Scene+ caters to a family of over 10 million members who can earn points at Scotiabank, Cineplex Theatres and other entertainment venues, and 700 Recipe restaurants across Canada, including Swiss Chalet, Harveys and Montana’s. They can then redeem these points in grocery stores.
