Gatik and Loblaw Companies roll out autonomous driverless commercial operations in Canada

Loblaw Companies, Canada’s leading grocery and pharmacy chain, had earlier teamed up with Gatik, a driverless middle-mile logistics startup. The partner firms are ready to let Gatik’s fleet of multi-temperature box trucks move. The fleet of autonomous trucks will select online grocery orders for Loblaw’s PC Express service. Gatik has helped the giant grocer make 150,000-plus autonomous deliveries with a safety driver on board since 2020. This will be the first time that the safety drivers will be removed from the trucks to let them autonomously drive. David Markwell, chief technology and analytics officer at Loblaw Cos. Ltd, and Gautam Narang, CEO and co-founder Gatik, shared that this fleet will ultimately increase the efficiency of the supply chain.
