Amazon introduces age verification with palm-scanning technology for alcohol purchases

Amazon is expanding its palm-scanning technology, Amazon One, to include age verification for purchasing alcohol. The feature is initially being implemented at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, and aims to streamline the process of buying alcohol by eliminating the need for customers to present their government-issued IDs. Amazon One, launched in 2020, allows users to link their palm prints to their payment information for convenient transactions. The technology is already available at various Amazon physical retail locations, as well as third-party retailers in airports and sports stadiums. The addition of age verification is expected to be rolled out to more establishments in the future. While Amazon’s grocery format, Amazon Go, has faced challenges, the introduction of age verification may enhance its appeal.
