Delhaize Belgium has teamed up with LocalTea to roll out locally grown and picked tea to its stores. The retailer launched this initiative to grow eco-friendly tea and advance sustainability efforts with reduced CO2 emissions. Delhaize partnered with Dionne Oomen and Johan Jansen to use natural cultivation methods to cultivate tea. As per these methods, 99% less water and energy is used as compared with tea from the other side of the world. This October, Delhaize Belgium reported a 15% increase in the sales of vegetarian products in the past two years, the ‘strongest growth ever’ for the category in its stores.
