Whole Foods Market will be adding Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology in 2022

Whole Foods Market has announced that it will be adding Amazon’s cashierless technology in two of its stores in 2022. The organic supermarket chain will implement cashierless technology in their Washington, D.C.’s Glover Park and Sherman Oaks, California locations. Amazon rolled out its technology at the first Amazon Go in downtown Seattle in January of 2018. Due to fundings in the market, a lot of other self-checkout technology startups have entered the space.

Pepper App is the Instagram version of a cooking platform

Jake Aronskind came up with the idea of building the Pepper app, a digital platform offering food pictures, recipes and ingredients, during the pandemic. Jake said that people shared pictures of the meals they cooked on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Others wanted to make the same dish and know the recipe. Pepper app lets users scroll down food pictures like Instagram. Instead of a caption, they will find the recipe or ingredients listed below. Users can add categories and hashtags such as vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and keto.

Independent grocers team up with Foodstorm to prepare for the holiday season sales

As the holiday season is approaching soon, independent grocers are hustling to digitize the catering process. Many grocers like Straub’s Fine Grocers and Midtowne Market in Missouri have partnered with FoodStorm, a leading Australian firm providing catering software. FoodStorm offers order management and production software, along with payment processing technology. These grocers are looking at this as an opportunity to grow their customer base. FoodStorm also works with Albertsons, Mollie Stone’s and Roche Bros.

Walmart upgrades app features and continues to grow partnerships and groceries orders

Walmart is working on having a consolidated supply chain strategy and further strengthen its omnichannel presence. Walmart has unified its blue and orange grocery shopping app. The giant grocer has upgraded its app to let shoppers checkout with one basket and transaction for products that will be shipped from different locations. The supply chain team is working to optimize the order fulfilment process. This news comes after Walmart partnered with Meredith to share shoppable and automated meal solutions to consumers. As of last week, 10% of the consumer traffic was coming from the combined app.

Taco Bell rolls out Taco Lover’s Pass through its app as a treat for premium members

Taco Bell has launched Taco Lover’s Pass at limited stores in Arizona, a Southwestern U.S. state. This Taco Lover’s pass costs around $5 to $10, based on the user’s location. The fast-food chain had earlier launched the Taco Bell reward program to boost online sales. The program urged premium members to make 35% more spending, as CEO David Gibs listed in Q2 2020 earnings. The Taco Lover’s Pass is valid for 30 days and lets the premium members unlock a variety of delicious Taco menu offerings.
