Giant Eagle has rolled out cashierless checkout technology to four more of its outlets in the Pittsburgh area. Giant Eagle, the first retailer to introduce autonomous shopping technology, has partnered with Grabango, a tech firm, to add autonomous shopping capabilities. The retailer conducted a survey, which suggested that customers are satisfied using the technology. The study showed that 88% of shoppers were extremely happy with the autonomous technology and 80% of shopping runs are now made by repeat customers. Giant Eagle stores are equipped with cameras and AI to monitor and tally purchased products.

Instacart is about to roll out a digital advertising platform

Instacart, the famous grocery delivery firm, is expanding its business to balance the increasing grocery delivery costs. Instacart is teaming up with digital experts from Facebook and other apps to develop its digital advertising platform. The delivery firm aims to boost revenues and connect with customers with this move, as a spokesperson of the Wall Street Journal reports. Brands will pay Instacart to get featured on Instacart’s app to increase brand awareness. Instacart’s advertising business generated around $300m in revenue last year, and the firm now wants to generate $1bn by next year.
