Amazon inaugurates its first cashless grocery store in London

Amazon has launched its first smart grocery shop in London. To enhance the shopping experience, Amazon will tally customers’ purchases via ceiling cameras and shelf weight sensors. Shoppers can connect with the store by scanning the smartphone QR code. An online bill will be sent to their registered credit card, making it a cashless grocery experience. Amazon technology uses sensor fusion and computer vision to manage purchases.

Safeway & Tortoise, a tech startup, to pilot grocery delivery robots

Safeway, a grocery giant owned by Albertsons Companies, is tapping Tortoise, a Tech startup, to test remote-controlled grocery delivering robots. Safeway will equip its carts with Tortoise sensors and the bots will deliver groceries up to three miles, while a remote-control operator will help navigate the bot to its destination. It has a capacity and lockable grocery storage of 120 pounds. Customers will be notified once the cart arrives.
