Whole Foods Market expands Amazon One palm payment system to all U.S. stores

Whole Foods Market, an Amazon-owned grocer, is expanding its adoption of Amazon One, a palm payment system, to all of its 500-plus U.S. stores by year’s end. Customers can use Amazon One to make payments by simply hovering their palm over a device, eliminating the need for wallets or phones. Currently available at over 200 Whole Foods locations, the technology will be rolled out to the remaining stores in the coming months. First-time users can pre-enrol online and complete the process by scanning their palm at a participating store. Amazon One is also being adopted by other businesses, including Panera Bread and Coors Field, for loyalty linking and age verification. The technology uses multiple palm characteristics for secure identification, and customer data is protected in the AWS Cloud without being used for marketing purposes.
