Wakefern, the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the US, is seeing success with its online ordering platform, Order Express. The app was originally launched in 2015 as the ShopRite Deli & More app, which focused primarily on deli. Wakefern then expanded those offerings, adding foodservice catering, prepared foods and cake building. During the pandemic, the app took off, with some stores closing their service delis and only allowing customers to place orders via the app. The in-store kiosk is the most popular way of ordering, but Wakefern is looking to promote mobile ordering to customers to facilitate growth. Order Express has improved productivity, with orders placed ahead resulting in greater efficiency at store level. The company plans to expand its assortment within the stores.
