Various C-stores see sales of peg bag candy, gums and sour treats surge as people go back to their offices

As consumers feel relaxed after the pandemic, various convenience stores see an upsurge in the sales of sweet and sour candies. As per the NielsenIQ Total Convenience data, confection and gum sales increased by over 15% for the 52 weeks ending April 30, 2022. The data also revealed that sales of mint, sour gums and candies outgrew that of chocolate items. The retailers witnessed a 15.5% rise in confection sales, a 15.3% increase in gum sales and a 13.5% uptick in mint sales. Nonetheless, chocolate products remain the popular section in the category and had $2.95 billion in sales for the period, which is an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous year. According to Raul Buenrostro, director of retail marketing at Friendly Express, peg (bag) candy and gum saw a surge as the workforce goes back to their office premises.
