Target is testing an extension facility to expedite online orders for customers living in suburban and outlying areas of major cities. The facility, located in Smyrna, Georgia, uses drivers from Target-owned delivery service Shipt to pick up packages and deliver them to customers’ doorsteps. The extension facility is part of Target’s strategy to offer next-day delivery to more customers and expand its supply chain network. While over 96% of Target’s online orders are fulfilled at stores, the extension facility enables faster deliveries to a wider radius. The move comes as Target’s e-commerce sales have declined, with a 3.4% decrease in the most recent quarter. Target aims to boost online sales and profitability as it faces challenges in the retail landscape.
