Target Corp. is disclosing the “secret sauce” behind its sortation centre success, which enables it to serve more customers faster while saving time and space for its entire workforce. Target has nine sortation facilities in Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, with additional ones opening in the Chicago and Denver regions lately. Each of these centres uses low-cost Target Last Mile Delivery, which involves working with Shipt partners as well as drivers on the Shipt network to deliver batches of orders that have been sorted hyperlocally, 40% of which are delivered the following day. Target plans a $100 million investment to expand its next-day delivery capabilities in order to reach more than 15 sites by the end of 2026. Target is also testing higher-capacity delivery vans, with hopes to extend them into all markets in the coming years.
