Grocery stores and fast food restaurants are both seeking new methods to get online orders into the hands of customers. What if they band together to do so? Takeoff Technologies, which supplies automated micro-fulfillment technology to merchants, is collaborating with one on a project to combine online grocery delivery with fast food delivery. Customers will be able to order goods from the retailer’s store and food from a local McDonald’s restaurant in a single transaction and have the products delivered simultaneously. Takeoff expects that the model would allow grocery shops and quick-service restaurants to boost sales for one another while distributing the costs of delivering rapid service to customers. Additionally, companies may incentivise individuals to add groceries to a fast-food meal by providing a free sundae in exchange.
