Market researchers observe a decline in organic produce sales as inflation goes up

The widely spread COVID-19 pandemic altered consumer behaviour as they started focusing more on their health and overall wellness.

As a result, shoppers purchased more organic produce, including fresh vegetables and fruits. Recently, Nielson compiled a consumer research report conducted by the Organic Produce Network’s Organic Produce Performance Report. The report detailed that price-sensitive shoppers were battered by inflation, and sales of organic produce by volume fell 2.8%, while the conventional category decreased by 2%. The Hartman Group discovered that 60% of consumers reported purchasing more organic produce in the past three months. The report further showed that consumers are interested in organic foods, plant-based meat, and dairy alternatives to become healthy.
