Lidl grabs the title of the top retailer in Hungary for the second year

For the second year in a row, Lidl has been crowned as the best retailer in Hungary, as per the 2021 Retailer Ranking by local portal Trademagazin.

The criteria for ranking different retailers included the sales revenue in the local currency provided by grocers and the size of the store network for each retailer. Lidl ended the year 2021 with a turnover of about €2.49 billion, up on the previous year’s €2.28 billion, along with an increase of five stores year-on-year, bragging 191 stores. Spar Hungary grabbed the second rank with a turnover of €2.14 billion, up from the €2.02 billion it reported in 2020. Third-place was cemented by Tesco as it closed in 2021 with a turnover of €2.07 billion (€2.0 billion in 2020) and boasted a store network of 198 outlets.
