Due to a collaboration between the tech company Grocerist and the charity Field & Fork Network, the New York-based Hub on the Hill is slated to become the first grocery store in the country to accept Double Up Food Bucks online. Every dollar spent on fruits and vegetables by SNAP beneficiaries is doubled. Grocerist’s new e-commerce app, developed on the Shopify e-commerce platform, is the first digital solution available to grocers to handle the programme. The Double Up initiative has aided in the sale of 5.2 million pounds of fruits and vegetables to over 100,000 New York residents. The programme is an excellent resource for expanding the availability of fresh, healthy foods to SNAP users.
