A report by Wynshop and Incisiv suggests that home delivery of online grocery orders in the U.S. has seen a slight increase in the second quarter of 2023, potentially due to record-high temperatures. The “State of Digital Grocery Performance Scorecard for H1 2023” report analysed 1.9 million shopper orders and conducted surveys with shoppers and grocery executives. The report reveals that home delivery accounted for 49.1% of online orders fulfilled in Q2, up from 48.5% in Q1. Home delivery remained the most popular method for online orders from small grocers, capturing 66.7% of orders, while large grocery stores saw 48.6% of orders fulfilled via delivery. Despite increased spending and a return to delivery services, online grocery sales declined by 1.4% quarter over quarter to $29.5 billion. Third-party grocery providers also experienced a quarterly decline of 5.6% in sales. The report indicates that consumers have adjusted to inflation and that the digital grocery category has reached a new level of maturity.
