The Dunnhumby Store Preference Index for this year shows that H-E-B has displaced Amazon as the top supermarket retailer in the United States (RPI). On the sixth annual ranking, Costco Wholesale overtook an e-tail juggernaut to claim the No. 2 position. While Wegmans Food Markets remained in fourth place, Amazon took third. Market Basket and Amazon Fresh were eliminated when two warehouse club firms, Costco and Sam’s Club, rose to prominence. The five “preference drivers” that influence customers’ emotional ties to supermarket stores are examined by the Retailer Preference Index (RPI).

The three stores with value propositions that are most in line with what matters to customers are H-E-B, Costco, and Wegmans. 30 000 American consumers were surveyed between October 2021 and November 2022 for the RPI. In the ranking’s digital pillar, Amazon came out on top. A strong emotional connection existed between first-quartile shops and 59% of their clients. According to Dunnhumby, the report may be used as a guide to help supermarkets strengthen their competitive positions. Schnuck Markets advanced 12 points, and Krogers Food 4 Less climbed 16 spots to the second quartile. This year, a number of regional flags moved up the RPI ladder.
