Grocers turn to Vertical Storage to meet online grocery demands

Grocers are becoming more interested in vertical storage systems because they let employees put together orders more effectively and can be less expensive than other forms of automated equipment. This interest is being prompted by the pandemic’s steady development in e-commerce sales.

The mechanical units are coveted for their capacity to store and quickly retrieve parts while requiring a minimum of floor space. They stack totes laden with commodities on shelves in multistory towers that can be more than 40 feet tall. According to Max Gigli, CEO of Modula, these benefits are now gaining traction with food stores that, up until recently, showed very little interest in vertical storage systems while investing in other types of automation. An Italian company called Modula makes vertical storage equipment and collaborates with European grocery stores as well as American supermarket chains.
