General Mills, the food manufacturing company, is ramping up its use of automation to optimise its warehouse and logistics network. The company has already implemented warehouse automation features in four locations, with additional projects in progress. These projects involve incorporating advanced technologies such as unique layer picking, which enables the use of mixed-SKU pallets. Warehouse automation has become increasingly prevalent in various sectors, including grocery retail. General Mills’ move towards automation is part of its efforts to address suboptimised warehouse and logistics networks, as highlighted by Chairman and CEO Jeff Harmening. The company is also focusing on digitisation in its supply chain to enhance real-time guidance and truckload utilisation. General Mills continues to evaluate and optimise its logistics network amidst a rapidly changing environment.
