Costco acquires the residual 45% minority interest in Taiwan

Costco Wholesale Corp. has a global presence, and apart from an e-commerce site, it runs around 14 warehouses in the East Asian country Taiwan. Recently, the wholesale grocer acquired the remaining 45% minority interest in the country from the long-term joint venture associates. The acquisition deal in the Costco-Taiwan joint venture costs $1.05 billion and would add around 1%-1.5% to Costco’s earnings per share. In its Q3, Costco US enjoyed perks from an increased membership fee income of $984 million, up $83 million year-over-year. The retailer’s net sales in Q3, which ended on May 8, went up 16.3%, to $51.61 billion, from $44.38 billion last year. Costco operates around 833 warehouses globally, 574 of them are in Puerto Rico and the US.
