Chicago’s Wellness West and Instacart team up to tackle food insecurity

Wellness West, a coalition of healthcare and safety-net institutions in Chicago, has partnered with Instacart to address food insecurity and support chronically ill individuals on the city’s West Side. The collaboration introduces the “Food Connections” programme, providing eligible Wellness West members with a $79 monthly grocery stipend delivered through Instacart Health Fresh Funds. This stipend can be used to purchase nutritious foods, such as fresh and frozen produce, for convenient delivery. It can also be combined with other food benefit programmes like SNAP, making grocery shopping more accessible. Wellness West primarily serves uninsured and Medicaid-insured patients with specific medical conditions in ten West Side zip codes. In Chicago, food insecurity affects a significant portion of the population, with children, older adults, and low-income households being particularly vulnerable. The partnership aims to alleviate these challenges and enhance food access for those in need.
