Michigan-based grocery technology firm eGrowcery has introduced a new offering called BOLT (Build, Operate, Lease, and Transfer), allowing grocers to purchase their own customised e-commerce platform. With BOLT, grocers can initially adopt a software-as-a-service (SaaS) approach and later migrate their e-commerce platform to their own servers. The CEO of eGrowcery, Patrick Hughes, explained that while some retailers still prefer traditional SaaS pricing models, others are interested in owning their own platform rather than building it in-house. The company noted a growing trend among grocers to take control of their e-commerce technology, especially as online sales continue to surpass pre-pandemic levels. Industry consultant Mark Doiron highlighted the increasing interest from retailers in fully managing this aspect of their business. In 2022, eGrowcery formed partnerships with several leading players, including Rouses Markets, Great Lakes Foods, and DoorDash.
