Aldi Netherlands rolls out another cashier-less store in Utrecht

Aldi Netherlands has been introducing state-of-the-art technology to its stores all around Europe. Lately, the discount retailer has rolled out a new store with its check-out-free technology called “Aldi Shop and Go” in Utrecht city centre, the fourth-largest city in the country. The Shop and Go technology features shelf sensors and roof-installed cameras to record all product movements and place them in the right customers’ carts as they roam around the store. The Shop and go app generates a QR code, and shoppers can scan it to pay for their purchase and scan it again to leave the store. The app will complete the payment process automatically in a contactless manner. Jan Oostvogels, chief executive at Aldi Holding B.V., shared that the firm is proud of its latest tech projects. Aldi Netherlands has teamed up with Trigo Vision, the AI infrastructure specialist firm, to expand the checkout-free tech.
