Albertsons is planning to grow the number of smart carts to dozens of its retail outlets across the US. The grocery retailer teamed up with Veeve, a tech firm, to develop and roll out these smart carts. The automated carts are directly linked with the Albertsons for U loyalty programme and facilitate digital payment for shoppers. The digital payment facility helps shoppers skip the checkout line. These carts come with a touch screen that tallies the products and helps shoppers scan them. Veeve CEO Shariq Siddiqui plans to add more features to these smart carts, including in-store navigation, digital ads, recipes, and e-commerce.
